Remote shore beyond the mountain pass.
Applecross is a row of whitewashed cottages along its bay, facing Raasay and the Skye hills across the water. Getting there is half the point: the Bealach na Bà climbs to 630m on hairpins and gradients near 20%, the greatest single ascent of any road in Britain, though it’s often shut by winter snow. A gentler coast road comes in from the north if the pass looks grim. The Applecross Inn is the reward at the end.
