Shieldaig is a single row of whitewashed cottages facing the water, with a pine-clad island sitting just offshore in Loch Torridon — a gorgeous, much-photographed scene. The village has a hotel, a café and boat trips out among the seals. It’s on the A896, and makes a lovely base for the Torridon hills or the coast road round to Applecross.
