Torridon sits at the head of its upper loch, hemmed in by some of the most dramatic mountains in Scotland — the long quartzite-capped ridge of Liathach rears almost straight up behind the village. A National Trust for Scotland countryside centre by the road explains the geology and wildlife. It’s the obvious base for walkers on the A896, with a youth hostel, a campsite and the smart Torridon hotel close by.
