Britain's most dramatic hairpin mountain road.
Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
The Bealach na Ba is the greatest road climb in Britain, a single-track pass that hairpins from sea level to over 600 metres with gradients approaching 20%. It carries the old road across to Applecross, and from the top you look out to Skye and the Outer Hebrides. It’s regularly shut by snow, ice or high wind, and it’s no road for a caravan or a nervous driver — the alternative coast road exists for good reason.
