Westbury White Horse
Local highlightThe oldest and best known of the Wiltshire horses, below the Iron Age ramparts of Bratton Camp near Westbury.
The horse in its present form dates from a remodelling of 1778, and is the oldest and best known of the Wiltshire figures. To save the endless work of scouring, it was later set in concrete and painted white. It sits below the ramparts of Bratton Camp, an Iron Age hillfort on the western edge of the downs, and shows for miles across the vale. Only the ancient Uffington horse has a stronger claim to age.
