Sea stack in a dramatic seabird bay.
Marsden Rock is a great sea-stack of magnesian limestone standing just off the beach in Marsden Bay, loud through spring and summer with nesting kittiwakes and cormorants. It once had a natural arch, but that collapsed after winter storms in 1996, leaving the tall stack you see today. You reach the bay by steps down the cliff or the lift beside the Marsden Grotto, the pub built into the rock face. The clifftop grassland of The Leas runs south from here.
