Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.

Glen Esk is the longest of the Angus glens, reaching north-west from Edzell deep into the eastern Grampians. The single road up the glen runs towards Loch Lee, passing The Retreat, a folk museum that tells the story of life in these remote uplands. It’s fine walking country, with hill routes heading off over the Mounth. Free to explore; the glen road is long and narrow, so allow plenty of time.
