A modern galloping horse cut above the Channel Tunnel terminal in 2003, on Cheriton Hill outside Folkestone.
The Folkestone horse is a recent one, designed by the artist Charles Newington and cut in 2003 after years of planning delays. It gallops across Cheriton Hill above the Eurotunnel terminal, and because the chalk here is unstable the outline was laid in more durable material. The slope is too steep to climb, so you view the horse from a distance — from around Cheriton, or the roads near the M20 at Junction 12. It looks out over the Kent Downs towards the coast.
