St Leonard’s stands on the hillside above Hythe, a large medieval church with a raised chancel. Its famous feature is the crypt beneath: an ambulatory lined with a stacked ossuary of well over a thousand skulls and many more bones, one of the few such collections surviving in Britain. The church is open; the crypt opens seasonally for a small charge. Sandling station is about 2km to the north-west.
