A 15th-century coaching inn in the hilltop village of Horndon-on-the-Hill, the Bell has been run by the same family since 1938 and is a long-standing Good Pub Guide entry for its food and rooms. A hot cross bun has been added to the collection hung above the bar every Good Friday for more than a century. Stanford-le-Hope station is about 1.5km away.
