St Mary’s at Higham stands out on the marshes below the village, cared for now by the Churches Conservation Trust and open daily. Inside is a carved medieval oak rood screen, one of the best in Kent. Charles Dickens lived nearby at Gad’s Hill Place and knew the church. Higham station is about 2km to the south.
