Tom a’ Choinnich is a Munro — a Scottish hill over 3,000 feet (914m) — of 1,113m on the northern side of Glen Affric, one of the best-loved glens in the Highlands. This is a shapely peak with craggy ridges, in contrast to the rounder, grassier Toll Creagach, and walkers usually take the two together, the neighbour lying a few kilometres to the east, or as part of a longer round taking in Carn Eighe to the west. The name means roughly “hill of the moss”. Much of the higher ground is pathless, so a map and compass are worth having.
