The highest hill in Scotland north of the Great Glen, a broad grassy Munro deep in the Glen Affric hills

Carn Eighe reaches 1,183m in the knot of high hills between Glen Affric and Loch Mullardoch, the highest Munro — a Scottish hill over 3,000 feet — anywhere north of the Great Glen. The summit is a broad grassy dome, though the northern side breaks into crags and a fine ridge links to Mam Sodhail, its near-twin just to the south. The pair is usually taken in together on one long day from Glen Affric, since simply reaching the foot of the hills means miles of track first. In poor weather this is serious ground, with real drops near the path and little to steer by on the plateau, so carry a map and compass and know how to use them.
