At the eastern tip of the Gower peninsula, two small tidal islands mark the end of Swansea Bay, and the octagonal white lighthouse stands on the outer one. It went up in the 1790s and was unusual for carrying two lights, one above the other, rather than the single lamp most towers use. Trinity House, who look after the lighthouses of England and Wales, still run it, and the light is automated now with no keeper. You can walk out to the islands across the sand and rock at low tide, but the tide comes back around them fast, so keep an eye on it. Mumbles Pier and the little cove of Bracelet Bay are right by the headland, and the Wales Coast Path runs along the front.
