Blackpool’s biggest park opened in 1926, laid out by the landscape architect Thomas Mawson around a boating lake, an Italian Garden and the Cocker Tower, a memorial to the town’s first mayor. It’s free to enter, open dawn to dusk every day, and has twice been voted the UK’s best park. Beyond the formal gardens there’s a golf course, athletics track and playgrounds, with Blackpool Tower a couple of kilometres west.
