Charles Wade, architect and compulsive collector, bought this Cotswold manor in 1919 and packed it with more than 22,000 handmade things — samurai armour, model ships, bicycles, clocks — while living plainly in an outbuilding himself. He and the Arts and Crafts architect Baillie Scott laid out the terraced garden as a set of outdoor rooms around it. Given to the National Trust in 1951. Paid entry in the warmer months; it’s a short walk up from the car park.
