Portmeirion is Clough Williams-Ellis’s Italianate fantasy village, built on a wooded headland over the Dwyryd estuary between 1925 and 1975 from salvaged buildings and his own designs. Behind the pastel piazzas spreads the Gwyllt — miles of subtropical woodland gardens thick with rhododendrons and exotic trees. Best known now as the setting for the 1960s series ‘The Prisoner’. Admission charged; Minffordd station is under two kilometres away.
