John Milton came out to Chalfont St Giles in 1665 to escape the plague in London, and it was in this timber-framed cottage that he finished Paradise Lost. It survives as a small museum of his life and writing, with a cottage garden behind. It opens on set days for a charge, a short way from Seer Green station.
