Kenwood is the Georgian villa and parkland on the north edge of Hampstead Heath, its white Robert Adam facade looking out over lawns that slope down to a lake and a sham bridge. Humphry Repton was brought in to shape the grounds in the 1790s, and the house now holds the Iveagh Bequest, a free art collection that includes a Vermeer, a Rembrandt self-portrait and several Turners. English Heritage runs it: entry to the house is free (booking recommended), and the parkland is open at any time as part of the Heath, near the mixed bathing pond. Hampstead Heath station is about 1.6km south.
