Waterlow Park sits on the edge of Highgate Village, gifted to Londoners in 1889 by Sir Sydney Waterlow as “a garden for the gardenless”. Terraced lawns, ponds and mature woodland drop down the hill towards the City, whose skyline you can pick out from the higher paths. There’s a café in Lauderdale House, the Jacobean building at its centre. Free to enter, any day, and it backs onto Highgate Cemetery if you want to combine the two.
