Set high above the River Wye, How Caple Court has eleven acres of Edwardian gardens made in the early 1900s around a much older house. Formal terraces of yew hedging, pools and statuary drop away from the house, with a rose garden and, tucked in the woodland below, an Italianate sunken water garden that has been under restoration. The views reach towards the Forest of Dean and the Welsh hills. It’s now largely a wedding venue, so check opening before visiting; an admission charge applies.
