The Gregg’s Pit perry pear takes its name from this Much Marcle smallholding, where the original mother tree — over 200 years old and four storeys tall — still stands. James Marsden bought the cottage and its old orchards in 1992 and makes single-variety ciders and perries by wild fermentation, pressing on an 18th-century stone press. Orchard tours and tastings are by arrangement. It’s a short way from Much Marcle village and the Westons mill.
