The surprise at Hoarwithy is its church. St Catherine’s is an Italianate building with a bell-tower campanile and a golden mosaic of Christ inside, designed by J. P. Seddon and built through the 1880s above the River Wye — it looks like it belongs in Tuscany. The church is open and free. Down by the water are a riverside pub and the site of an old ferry crossing.
