Galloway House Gardens run down to the shore of Wigtown Bay near Garlieston, a sheltered spread of woodland and shrubbery first planted in the 1740s. Rhododendrons and camellias do well here, and a gentle walk brings you out to a sandy bay. It’s some way off the main roads, so check current opening hours before setting off.
