The Isle of Whithorn wraps around a natural harbour at the very tip of the Machars — despite the name, no longer an island. Pilgrims bound for Whithorn once landed here, and the roofless St Ninian’s Chapel still stands on the headland above the water. There’s a harbourside pub and a good walk out to the point.
