St Ninian's Cave
Local highlightA sea cave on a lonely pebble shore near Whithorn, long linked to St Ninian, reckoned Scotland’s earliest saint, who is said to have come here to pray. Early Christian crosses were found carved on the walls, and pilgrims still leave little crosses of driftwood and stone today. You reach it by a pretty walk down through woods and along the beach; it’s tidal, so time the shore section right.
