Barrington Court is a largely empty Tudor manor near Ilminster, the first country house the National Trust took on, in 1907. The Court House itself is currently closed for a long-running roof and conservation project, though the ground floor of the neighbouring Strode House stays open. The walled gardens beyond, planted to schemes influenced by Gertrude Jekyll, run as linked rooms — a Lily Garden, a White Garden and iris beds — with a working kitchen garden from the days of the Lyle sugar family. Paid entry.
