One of Britain’s oldest and largest vineyards, New Hall was planted at Purleigh in 1969 by Bill and Sheila Greenwood, who effectively started the Crouch Valley wine boom. More than 120 acres of vines run across the south-facing slopes, with a shop, tastings and tours. North Fambridge station is about 5km to the south.
