Maldon has made sea salt since 1882, and the Osborne family still hand-harvests the soft pyramid flakes here on the Blackwater, now shipped to kitchens worldwide. There’s a factory shop at the works. Salt-making on this estuary goes back to Domesday, so it’s an old craft in a fitting spot. Combine with the hilltop town of Maldon and its moored Thames barges.
