St Mary’s, a small downland church at Aldworth, holds the ‘Aldworth Giants’ — nine outsized stone effigies of the medieval de la Beche family, carved in the first half of the fourteenth century and battered during the Commonwealth. They fill niches around the walls. The Bell is on the green a minute away.
