Kept by the same family for more than 250 years, this unspoilt Downs pub serves ale through a hatch in its panelled bar, along with its famous filled rolls and hot soups, and keeps the peace with no music. It makes an ideal refuel on a walk along the Ridgeway just to the north, or across the chalk grassland of Streatley Warren.
