Balephuil is a big sweep of white sand at Tiree’s south-west corner, under the headland of Ceann a’ Mhara. Tiree gets more sunshine than almost anywhere in Britain and plenty of Atlantic swell, which is why the bay is a magnet for surfers and hosts the Tiree Wave Classic windsurfing event each autumn. It’s a fair drive down single-track roads to the south-west end of the island, well away from anything.
