Iona’s parish church was built in 1828 as one of Thomas Telford’s ‘parliamentary’ churches — the standard-design kirks put up across the Highlands and islands at government expense. It serves the island community below the more famous Abbey, at Baile Mòr. To reach Iona, take the little passenger ferry from Fionnphort on the Ross of Mull.
