Great Bircham’s mill is one of the few in Norfolk you can climb right to the top. Built in 1846 — a datestone between the first-floor windows reads GH 1846 — the five-storey tower was re-capped and re-sailed in the late 1970s, and visitors go up through the floors and out onto the fan deck for a view over the fields. There’s a working bakery on site too. Great Massingham, with its ponds and the Dabbling Duck, is a short drive south-east.
