Broad Eye Windmill rises seven storeys above the River Sow in the middle of Stafford, built in 1796 and long the tallest windmill in the Midlands. Much of its stone was reused from the town’s earlier Shire Hall. The sails came off in 1897 after a century of milling; today it’s looked after by a friends group and can be seen from the outside, right beside Stafford station.
