The last mill in Norfolk to grind corn by wind, Billingford worked on until 1956. The five-storey red-brick tower went up in 1860 on the common near Scole, replacing a post mill blown down the year before, and stands low enough to keep turning when mills on higher ground were becalmed. It’s looked after by the Norfolk Windmills Trust and best seen from the common; Diss lies to the south.
