Stein is a short line of white cottages along Loch Bay, out on the quiet Waternish peninsula. It was laid out in 1790 as a planned fishing village to a design by Thomas Telford, though the fishing venture never really took off. The Stein Inn survives from those days as the oldest pub on Skye, and still pours a pint right by the water — a cracking spot for a drink after a day’s driving.
