Trumpan is a ruined medieval church at the north end of Waternish, remembered for a grim morning in 1578 when a MacDonald raiding party set fire to it with the congregation inside; the reprisal that followed became known as the Battle of the Spoiling Dyke. Lady Grange, kidnapped and exiled to St Kilda by her husband, is thought to lie in the burial ground. The Stein Inn is back down the peninsula.
