Shere is a much-filmed village on the Tillingbourne, with a ford across the stream, timber-framed cottages and the Norman St James’ Church. It’s pretty enough to stand in for storybook England, turning up in films like The Holiday and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and gets busy on summer weekends. The White Horse is a timbered old inn near the centre. Gomshall station is about 2km east.
