The White Horse at Shere is a rambling half-timbered inn in one of Surrey’s prettiest villages, parts of it 15th-century, with low beams and open fires. It does food and gets busy at weekends, and sits a short stroll from St James’ Church. Gomshall station is about 1.5km east.
