Dylan Thomas spent a productive year at New Quay in 1944–45, and the town — a huddle of harbour-front houses above a sandy bay — is often read as a model for Under Milk Wood. Bottlenose dolphins from the Cardigan Bay population are seen regularly offshore; the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre runs boat trips, and the Black Lion keeps the Thomas connection going.
