Dylan Thomas drank at the Black Lion during the ten months he and Caitlin lived at New Quay in 1944–45, a spell that produced much of the material behind Under Milk Wood. The landlord remembered him writing with a pad on his knee among the locals. It’s still a proper harbour pub, up the hill from the water, and does food and rooms. The Ship Inn is down on the beach if you want a second stop.
