Linlithgow is a royal burgh strung between its loch and its High Street, with the roofless shell of Linlithgow Palace — birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1542 — rising above the water. Beside it stands St Michael’s, the burgh kirk with its aluminium crown. The town sits right on the Edinburgh–Glasgow main line, so the station is central and well served.
