The Hippodrome in Bo’ness opened in 1912 and is reckoned to be the oldest purpose-built cinema still standing in Scotland. It was designed by local architect Matthew Steele. After spells as a bingo hall and then years dark, it was restored and reopened in 2009, and still screens films and hosts an annual silent-cinema festival. Ticketed screenings; it’s in the middle of Bo’ness, about 4.5km from Linlithgow station.
