J.M. Barrie, who created Peter Pan, was born in Kirriemuir in 1860, and his birthplace on the Brechin road is now a little museum run by the National Trust for Scotland. The red-sandstone town calls itself the gateway to the glens, the way up into Glen Clova and Glen Prosen. There’s also a statue of AC/DC singer Bon Scott, who lived here as a boy, in the Bellies Brae car park — right by the Three Bellies Brae pub. Dundee is the nearest station, some way south.
