Glamis Castle, the turreted seat of the Earls of Strathmore, was the childhood home of the Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret was born here in 1930. For garden visitors the grounds are the draw — an Italian garden, a walled kitchen garden and a long avenue lined with daffodils in spring. Castle and grounds open seasonally with an admission charge, and the pretty village of Glamis sits at the gates. Dundee, about 18km south, is the nearest station.
