A conservation village of low, cream-washed cottages, Glamis sits just outside the gates of Glamis Castle, the turreted family seat where the Queen Mother grew up. The row by the kirk is unusually pretty for this part of Angus. It’s off the railway — Dundee, about 18km south, is the nearest station. Pair a visit with the carved Pictish cross-slab at nearby Eassie.
