Alyth is an old farming town in Strathmore, with the Alyth Burn running through the middle under a narrow packhorse bridge. It makes a quiet base for the Cateran Trail and the hills up towards Glenshee. There’s a market cross and the ruins of an old parish church to poke around. The nearest station is a fair way off at Invergowrie, about 21km south-east, so it’s really a place you reach by car.
