Howden is a small Georgian market town dominated by its minster, begun in 1228. The nave still serves as the parish church, while the roofless choir behind it has stood as a striking ruin since its roof fell in 1696. The old market place and quiet streets are pleasant to wander, and the station is a short walk out. The town was once famous for the largest horse fair in the country.
