Holywell — Treffynnon in Welsh — grew around St Winefride’s Well, where pilgrims have come to the healing spring since the Middle Ages. Often called the Lourdes of Wales, it’s one of the few places in Britain where pilgrimage has carried on more or less unbroken. Flint station is about 7km to the south-east.
